Wisdom, a Good Heart, and Peace of Mind

with Gen Kelsang Suma

.

Buddha taught that each one of us is endowed with a pure nature, and thus with the potential for limitless love, wisdom and joy.  In this class series we will learn how we can gently cultivate the Buddhist practices of meditation and mindfulness – tools to awaken this precious potential – one stepping-stone at a time.

Each week we will consider selected “words of wisdom” as these relate to a given monthly topic.

Monthly topics:

January        ♦ Meaning

February      ♦ Confidence

March           ♦ Acceptance

April              ♦ Love

May              ♦ Imagination

June              ♦ Faith

Cost: $10 per class (free for members).

Please drop in to any or all of these classes. Everyone is welcome!

Is the attainment of happiness really as complicated as we make it?  Is it true that happiness depends on such things as our ‘success’, reputation, status, looks, or possessions? The reality is that not one of these things – nor all of them together – can bring us lasting happiness. On the contrary, chasing after them with this hope is a sure way to frustration, disappointment and even cynicism.

Buddha teaches how we can all cultivate simple attitudes of mind that will make us genuinely happy. In each class we will explore, through teachings and guided meditations, how we can nurture powerful mental habits that fend off gloom and negativity, and enkindle a freeing lightness of heart and mind.
