Buddha taught that as a result of ignorance we completely misapprehend reality. Convinced that we exist as ‘stand-alones’ in the world – independent entities, separate from everyone and everything else – and perceiving our limitations to be real, we continually find ourselves stuck in harmful patterns and painful circumstances. But our limitations aren’t real. The actual nature of things is emptiness, which means that things do not exist outside of our mind, but as mere appearances arising from our mind. When we experience this truth, our mind is released from any sense of limitation or insecurity, and suffused with peace, joy and lovingkindness.

Within the tranquillity of retreat, we will explore and begin to cultivate the wisdom of emptiness. On Friday night there will be an introductory teaching. All retreat sessions on Saturday and Sunday will comprise a brief teaching, prayers and a period of meditation.

‘There is no greater method for experiencing peace of mind and happiness than to understand and meditate on emptiness’.
