We may airily subscribe to the equality of all living beings and their interdependence, but such truths will remain mere ideas unless and until we gain heartfelt experience of them. Buddha taught that to bring these and other spiritual truths alive – to make them deeply meaningful, such that they result in genuine inner transformation – we need to begin by engaging in a process of peaceful contemplation and meditation.
In this half-day course we will explore the power of these two mental activities, contemplation and meditation, looking particularly at how we can gently but purposefully weave them into the fabric of our daily lives, with, finally, extraordinary long-term benefits to ourselves and all whom we encounter.
If our mind is pure and peaceful we will be happy, regardless of our external circumstances, but if it is impure and unpeaceful we will never be happy, no matter how hard we try to change our external conditions. We could change our home or our partner countless times, but until we change our restless, discontented mind we will never find real happiness.
